Practice Pads-No Kit Needed!

Hi again fellow drumheads! Now there is something we need to talk about that I have been meaning to touch on and today is the day. I have talked with so many people just starting out in drumming that have been so concerned that they cant afford a drum kit. They seem to think that not owning their own kit means they can not start working on their drum lessons or their instructional material, what ever it my be.

Now listen here, the very first thing any good training coarse worth its salt is going to start you out on is the ever important drum rudiments. I don’t know how many drummers I have seen that have a lot of money rapped up in these huge drum kits with twenty cymbals and they have zero stick control and can’t play a simple drum roll for you! Hey I don’t want to practice the boring stuff, I think I will turn on some tunes and jam away on my drums! (Wrong).

I know some of you are out there laughing at me right now, but you no I’m right. If you are just starting out and don’t have a kit, don’t worry about it. What you need to do is get yourself a practice pad and a stand and of coarse a metronome. You can be learning and practicing some of the most important things a drummer will ever need to learn. You can be getting yourself well above the curve and when the day comes that you can get a good used drum kit, you will be able to actually do something on it that actually sounds like drumming!

So in closing I just want to say, take the time you need to save your money for your kit, that time will come soon enough and in the mean time get the pad, stand and metronome and concentrate on what is really important. And that is learning and practicing those ever important drum rudiments. Good luck and see you soon.
